Looking for Work

Category: Life,YogaEyeliah

I am looking for a part time job to help supplement my yoga teaching.  Since I got back from Europe in May I’ve had enough money to pay rent and to eat and that may be just about it….  Life is great but now that summer is over I feel ready to be more productive.  Last time I looked for part time work other than yoga was when I went door to door in January.  It did not go well not even receiving one call back.  This time I need to work at it more diligently, friends are going to Vegas in February and to have any chance in joining them I need a few more dollars in my bank account.

I’ve only actually ever had two non yoga jobs in this city!  And they were both really hard for me to find.  Vancouver doesn’t advertise jobs in newspapers, they seem to all be on craigslist.  The challenge with this is that since you don’t have to pay to use craigslist, anyone can post job ads which means a lot of fakes and placement agencies and also a lot of competition between job seekers.

I am determined to find something, so things may be a bit quiet on here this week.  Wish me luck!

Find a Place to Live

I’ve been looking at apartments a bit ahead of the game since most people won’t give notice for July 1st until Tuesday. The earlier I look the better an apartment I will find and I just may have my clothes and an outfit photo location again.

Teach Yoga

I have 20+ yoga classes lined up for this summer so far. I’ll be teaching my first Power Yoga sessions, covering for a week at a lovely studio and hopefully teaching on our gorgeous Vancouver beaches (fingers crossed for that interview today!).

Bicycle

My first week back from Europe I was an attractive mix of sick and lazy.  I had to get my blood pumping again so I’ve been remedying this by biking.  I also want to Amsterdamify my bike with baskets, bungees and a kickstand.

Progress

I just looked back at my plan from November and it’s interesting to evaluate what I’ve accomplished in six months.  I took the yoga training and stopped clenching my teeth, I didn’t sell my vintage pieces or become a better blogger; sorry but my life is still needing organization. I was right about not feeling safe in that sublet, I didn’t get the working visa for Holland but I did go to all the countries I wanted (plus Greece) and came back in May as planned to secure work and a home.  Overall I feel happy with my progress, time to get back at it!

What are your current missions?

3 Days Left ~ My Teaching

Category: Life,YogaEyeliah

My course is coming to an end, there are only 3 days left and I should be certified!  We only get one day off in the last eleven days of the course so it’s been a bit intense, sorry I’ve been absent(minded)in the blogosphere.

In regards to teaching; I’ve grasped the dialogue from the beginning but have struggled with my presence.  The first time I taught with hunched shoulders, nervousness and was sitting in front of the students.  Next few times I had a smidgen more confidence, was standing now but still exhibiting bad posture and occasional shakiness.  All three teachers had the same feedback for me; clear confident voice, easy to follow instructions although body language not portraying the same ease.  I changed my studying/practice to focus on moving around the space, strong posture, expressing confidence and sharing positive energy.  It made the biggest difference for me and now my feedback is flawless.

The last week of teaching I didn’t even have to study much, I’ve just got it.  If you want me to teach you a few yoga moves, the postures I know inside out are Centering, Head to Knees, Spinal Lift, Cobra, Childs Pose, Downward Dog, Half Twist, One Leg Forward Bend, Cat, Side Angle, Ballet, Triangle, Warrior II and Bow.  Once I study a few more I’m set to safely and affectively teach a well rounded flow to yogis ranging from beginners to very advanced.  I am ready.  Well, first I need to pass the final test on Wednesday.

Will you come take my class? ;)

My Yoga Path

Category: Life,My Outfits,YogaEyeliah

I want to tell you about my yoga path.  In February 2007 I injured my knee as a result of exercising incorrectly.  I was unable to walk more than 30 minutes at a time, was taking the bus back and forth to work and of course avoiding all the other fabulous activities life has to offer.  After stints in physiotherapy and acupuncture that achieved mild to average results I was sent to yoga and everything quickly changed for me.  I was back to walking my commute, riding my bike ‘for fun’ and was no longer scared to try new things, or even go bowling.  Hatha yoga became an integral part of my lifestyle attending classes 3 times every week I would feel slight pain and sluggishness whenever a class was missed.  Three and a half years later I still have limitations but it is manageable.  Since yoga influenced my life this dramatically learning more about the practice was an inevitable next step and I’ve been in the Certificate Training Program for 2 weeks now.  The program offers much more than I expected as it delves into philosophy, lifestyle and anatomy. For some reason I had it in my head I’d just be learning the postures but the true aim of yoga is to connect with the higher self.  Yoga teaches us how to live a clean and healthy life, with a positive outlook and loving relationships.  I have learned how to clean my nose with sea salt and massage my internal organs, I’ve been practicing good deeds without requiring acknowledgement, not easy.  This course couldn’t have come at a better time in my life, I am open.

Have you tried yoga?  Tell me about your experience?
