Lift Me Up And Take Me Out Of Here

Category: My Outfits,Set ListsEyeliah

Fighting but currently losing the battle… I still say screw you cold!

This is what I am wearing today. It may be a bit disjointed considering all the neo citran and other medicines clouding my judgment. Does a grandma sweater go with a school girl skirt and a studded belt I am not so sure, but it is quite cozy. I just can’t bring myself to be in boring old pants and whatever even when I’m sick.

Something unrelated (of course) but exciting (for me) is while searching for todays youtube video I stumbled on piles of non-album Arcade Fire songs. They are a top five band for me, the power they put out at their live shows is incredible and incomprehensible. If you ever have the opportunity to see Arcade Fire in concert please take it, there is nothing like having these ten gifted Canadians singing their hearts out to you in unison. This is a great video to start on and this one too. They also inspired me to record my very first setlist back in 2007.

The show was my first outdoor concert since living in Vancouver and it really made me fall in love with this city and the people. At the end of the show the crowd all piles out to catch the buses. My friend and I decide to be ‘smart’ and find the stop right before the concert stop so that we wouldn’t have to wait in a lineup of hundreds of people… but we never found another stop so then we walked all the way back and of course ended up at the very end of that line. Maybe an hour after the concert ended the line is much shorter and this big city bus pulls up. Since there were only maybe 20 people more than the bus should carry the driver was getting us to squish in so that he could take everyone. I had never been so sardined like this before but the passengers were all so relaxed and fulfilled from the amazing show that we didn’t mind pushing into eachother at each break and turn of the bus. Hard to describe but it was magical, like I said I fell in love with this city.

As I ramble on, here’s a peek of an amazing girl I shot for The Eyeline.

No really, she is amazing, go here and then enter the giveaway by completing this survey.

The Sounds Setlist Commodore Ballroom

Category: My Outfits,Set ListsEyeliah

First let me tell you the embarrassing part, do you ever get tickets from Ticketmaster?  Well they print your receipt on a third ticket so you have to look close and make sure to bring the right ones.  I did no such thing for The Sounds concert.  We had to go all the way home to get my stupid ticket and we missed the opening band.  I have never done this before as I always double and triple check as I am a bit paranoid.  Of course this time I knew better (no I didn’t) lol.

Anyways, I have been a fan of The Sounds for more than 4 years so to get to finally see them has had me so excited.  The crowd was young, I’d say 19-23 on average, lots of crowd surfing too.  The band had major energy, by the encore even I was exhausted.  I think there goal was to out-party us.  They were drinking and smoking on stage, Maja lost her voice from screaming so much and then crowd surfed herself!!  She kept calling us expletive pet names which was fun, and apparently we really know how to party – damn straight!

B O C

When I was getting ready for work on Friday Breakfast Television, the Vancouver morning show did an email contest for tickets to that nights Blue Oyster Cult show, I love live music so of course I entered. A few hours later I got a call that I won FOUR tickets and a Meet & Greet with the band. Wait….. what? So exciting.  Found three friends and after work hurried home, had a quick dinner, changed a few pieces of my outfit and off we went.

Meeting the guys I told them how I won the tickets, they were super nice and now I have this commemorative photo. Since I didn’t know much of their music going in I would have liked to meet them after, because I would have been gushing!! Our seats were best in the house and the band really kicked ass! The set list may look short with only 11 songs, but there were many (many) guitar solos as well as drum solos, bass solos…… I had no idea how talented Buck Dharma was on that guitar, he blew my mind.  And Rusy Sarzo the bassist used to play in Quiet Riot, Whitesnake and with Ozzy Osbourne – he had many fans in the audience that’s for sure.  A band that spans over four decades so glad I got the chance to see them, for free was even better. Thanks BT and BOC!

Juliette Lewis Setlist Commodore Ballroom October 11 2009

Category: Set ListsEyeliah

We showed up early enough to see four songs from the opening act The Ettes and they were awesome, definitely will be checking out their music.  It was easy for us to move up to right behind the fans on the barricade at center stage so obviously I was ecstatic, this is the closest I’ve ever got at the Commodore!  45 minutes later Juliette came out like a bat out of hell in a feathered shoulder piece, black lace Victorian blouse and sequin pants (photo via Brittany Kwasney on flickr).  She started softly playing Ghosts before busting head strong into Purgatory Blues.  The crowd started to go crazy for her, these people were all huge fans like me!  Three songs in this pushy girl comes out of nowhere and starts trying to edge in front of me even though the spot she is in is equally as amazing as mine, just a tad to the left.  I don’t think much of it as this happens time to time and I just need to hold steady.  A song later she decided to elbow me in the ribs and step on my foot.  Of course I said something to which she replied, ‘if you don’t want to get crushed move to the back’.  I have to say I wasn’t really sure what to say, we are all here to have a good time and clearly she is here to make trouble so I switched places with my husband (thanks honey!).   I ended up in her old spot which I must say was also a very lovely view, I mean Juliette is still right there.  A few songs later a beautiful girl on the right of them (used to be the right of  me) got fed up at the pushy gal and punched her and then punched pushy gals friend too and left the pit.  Of course they start whining ‘why did she do that?’.  I could have responded with the line she initially gave to me about moving to the back.  Then Juliette decides to move down and get closer to the crowd, I remembered  that from the Richards on Richards show that she likes to create these personal moments for her fans.  Flashback to that show; we were in the front row, she put her face right in front of mine and I had the opportunity to reach out and touch her cheek.  In fact all four of us got to touch Juliette that night.  Now back to tonight, Juliette was telling us to kiss the people around us, then she moved in front of me and I motioned to Juliette by pointing at myself and then at her so she leaned forward and I got to kiss her on the cheek!  I was now quite happy to had been pushed over into this spot. :-)   They played a few more songs, I sang along to every single word and then just like that it was over.  An amazing and unforgettable night.

What a handsome man close up!

In other news, I am writing this post in Anywhere But Here fashion meaning it is going onto different topics and on forever (and ever and ever) ;-) Seriously if you don’t read her blog yet go do it now!

I am also shopping for a new leather jacket, my green thrifted bomber has multiple issues; too short in arms and waist, needs the zipper repaired, doesn’t keep me very warm anyway cuz it’s most likely not real leather. Here was my round of shopping on yesterdays break. I like my leather vintage so I went to True Value Vintage, Used and Cherry Bomb; my inspiration was 3:10 to Yuma.

Blurry change room photos; this first one $89 was too thick for Vancouver’s mild weather with sheepskin lining but the side pockets were so cozy. This second one $47 is the same as my green jacket! Just purple, definitely leather, a couple sizes bigger and the pockets are trashed and need to be replaced.

Two upcycled leathers in red, both $165.

Rad indigo blue for $47, would have bought but after close inspection noticed a slash in the leather on the back. :-(

My mission now is to go back for the purple jacket and see how it looks with jeans!
