Slowly The Pieces Fall Into Place

Category: Inspiration,LifeEyeliah

It is funny how expectations don’t ever seem to match up with reality.  When I started my bathroom my inspiration were bright yellow, Starry Starry Night and cobalt and azure. What I ended up going with instead is a Feel Free print by Rodney White, I can’t find a bright yellow towel anywhere (perhaps should try eBay?) and no cobalt blue to be seen.  The shower curtain, wicker and seashells are there though.

The living room is not yet enjoying the hints of seafoam I planned but the red is thriving and there is beige and white coming into play.  I am actually enjoying the simplicity of that color scheme for now.  Pictures perhaps at a later date, it’s not ready yet.

I was pretty stoked when I hung these shelves almost level.  Now there is a place for coats by the entrance, much needed as my only closet is at the other end of the apartment.

Decorating Mode

Category: InspirationEyeliah

Here are my first inspirations as I begin decorating my new 325 square foot abode.

Bathroom

Bathroom inspiration started with a bright turquoise towel. I added a striped slate shower curtain to add depth to the space and yellow to keep it cheery. My Starry Starry Night print and shells will fit in well.

Living Room

I have a cherry red table, red rug and a red couch. And I am a big fan of reds mixed with teal or seafoam green so when I found an hourglass with that beachy green sand I knew I had my color scheme. I haven’t had much luck finding more items in this shade of green so now I am looking for fabric to make curtains and pillows. Also contemplating mixing in a peacock wrap and paper umbrella.

Shopping in the Mens Department

Category: InspirationEyeliah

I wanted to take up the challenge of shopping in the mens department after reading No Signposts series on menswear.  First step, try online shopping.  I’ve always loved to borrow and wear button up shirts…. when I was living at home it was my dads dress shirts and as an adult it’s the boyfriends shirt.  It looks sexy on every woman even when it’s not the right size.  Best in blue stripes or classic white.

I also like pajama pants.  Very stylish for lounging at home and much better than sweats or flannel, but pretty please don’t wear them out to the grocery store.

I haven’t worn mens trousers in the last few years but it used to be a staple of my office wardrobe.  I could go for these chinos for day to day and formal trousers for a fancy evening.  I like the idea of espadrilles with the chinos and pairing the tuxedo trousers with a sparkly top and red lipstick.

Ladies, what mens clothes do you like to wear?

All mens clothing found at Jacamo.

Literary Inspirations

Category: InspirationEyeliah

I really like Thrift Eyes recent collages inspired by her favorite books so I decided to make a few as well.
Here are my inspirations based on the last three book series I have read.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

I read these books back to back, borrowing them from the library in quick succession with a fervor to read through each chapter as fast as humanly possibly.  For Lisbeth think rude t shirts, leather and more leather, studs and motorcycle boots.  These books are incredibly well written, please read them before seeing the movies.  The Swedish movies were passable but the David Fincher adaptation is spot on impressive.

The Hunger Games

Just last month I read The Hunger Games trilogy, very captivating easy reading.  It is obvious Suzanne Collins has an adoration for fashion as she describes the Capitols over the top style, Effie’s colorful looks and Katniss as the girl on fire.  It will be quite exciting to see the costumes come to life on the big screen next month.

Harry Potter
(I’m currently reading The Goblet of Fire)

I first read Harry Potter when I found a book last spring and brought it to Europe.  I couldn’t get over how a book that seven years olds love could also captivate me into a world of magic and possibilities.  Subsequently I have been reading through the volumes watching each movie after a book is completed.  For the outfit inspiration dressy is best with scarlet dress, owl purse, Gryffindor manicure and velvet cape.

What books inspire your style?
