I want to tell you about my yoga path. In February 2007 I injured my knee as a result of exercising incorrectly. I was unable to walk more than 30 minutes at a time, was taking the bus back and forth to work and of course avoiding all the other fabulous activities life has to offer. After stints in physiotherapy and acupuncture that achieved mild to average results I was sent to yoga and everything quickly changed for me. I was back to walking my commute, riding my bike ‘for fun’ and was no longer scared to try new things, or even go bowling. Hatha yoga became an integral part of my lifestyle attending classes 3 times every week I would feel slight pain and sluggishness whenever a class was missed. Three and a half years later I still have limitations but it is manageable. Since yoga influenced my life this dramatically learning more about the practice was an inevitable next step and I’ve been in the Certificate Training Program for 2 weeks now. The program offers much more than I expected as it delves into philosophy, lifestyle and anatomy. For some reason I had it in my head I’d just be learning the postures but the true aim of yoga is to connect with the higher self. Yoga teaches us how to live a clean and healthy life, with a positive outlook and loving relationships. I have learned how to clean my nose with sea salt and massage my internal organs, I’ve been practicing good deeds without requiring acknowledgement, not easy. This course couldn’t have come at a better time in my life, I am open.
Have you tried yoga? Tell me about your experience?
